Why Cash ... Why Not Trade?

We are frequently asked, “Why is your price so high, and why is it cash? After all, aren’t we all in barter business?” The answer to these questions is twofold.

Upwards of $13,000 may sound like a lot of money, but take a look at what you’re getting:

Danny Weibling is not just a programmer, he is also a CPA and a retail trade exchange owner/manager. He alone is uniquely qualified to program based on the fundamental business and tax reporting needs of a retail barter exchange, as well as the customer service and marketing requirements of the industry in which we operate. He has been consistently programming and upgrading since 1985, and has at least 15,000 hours into development of TradeWorks products. In addition he spends many hours each week providing support to the exchanges who use our system. Except when on an airplane, Danny is available nearly 24 hours daily to handle those little problems that come up. Sometimes he can even help with hardware problems - when a hard drive crashes, for example, or when the printer won’t work. No other barter software provides this kind of support.

Why is the price in cash? Well, are you charging your transaction fees in cash or trade? If you’re like 99% of the retail exchanges in North America, you charge 10-15% cash fee on all trade transactions. It’s how you pay expenses and earn your living. The same is true for us. TradeWorks products are not a hobby - they are an important part of the way we earn our living. And just as we tell our clients that only 5 to 10% of their gross revenue should be barter, the same is true for us. We already receive trade compensation through our salary at CTE. By trading for the software, we would essentially be earning even more of our own trade dollars.

There are many reasons to invest in good software. You and your staff will be more productive, can provide better service for your clients, and will save money in the long run by automating certain labor intensive tasks, and by saving hefty ‘franchise’ or processing fees. A retail trade exchange is not just a wheeling, dealing sales machine - you are operating a small economy, your currency is your trade dollar, and you are Alan Greenspan. It is an enormous responsibility. You need good software to meet your obligations to your clients, to your investors and to the government. We hope you find TradeWorks to be the best choice and a worthy investment for your cash.
