Equipment Checklist
Because it doesnt currently use a lot of graphics (which suck up all those
megs), TradeWorks doesnt require all new equipment. Weve installed on
systems that still use 386s. However, the newer the equipment, the faster
it will run and the happier youll be - buy the best you can afford.
Perfect world set-up is number of people, plus 2 computers: 1 network server
and 1 computer with WIN95 to host TWOL and FAXServer. Not all networks
require a dedicated file server. If your file server can be shared as a
workstation it may slow things down a bit, but on a very new computer with
lots of power, you wont notice a slow down. The FAXServer needs to have
Windows 3.1 or 95 installed - the TradeWorks integrated fax program doesnt
like Windows 98.
Its very nice, but not required, to also have a fax machine with its own
phone line that is not connected to the network. This makes creating fax
libraries much easier.
It is our goal to have you up and running completely and trained on everything
before we leave your office. If your equipment is not set up properly,
we may not achieve that goal. Therefore, before we arrive, please make
certain of the following:
-
Your network is up and running completely, with proper file sharing. The
network you choose may depend upon the expertise of your consultant. If
(s)he hates Novel, you probably dont want to get it. Preferred network
drive designation is F:. All the computers and printers that will be used
for TradeWorks or TradeWorks OnLine (TWOL) must be connected to the network.
-
You have a WIN95 computer set up and dedicated to TWOL and FAXServer. This
computer must have 2 ISA slots. Make sure your computer consultant knows
this.
-
You have a phone jack to plug the TWOL computer into, and you know the
phone number.
-
You have a phone jack to plug the FAXServer into, and you know the phone
number. This cannot not be the same phone jack as the one used for TWOL.
-
Your computer/network consultant is on-call and accessible when were installing
your new system.
Following is a checklist and a diagram of a typical network with FAXServer,
Network Server and TradeWorks OnLine. The FAXServer and TradeWorks OnLine
